Description:
A new $53 million San Marcos Unified School District project composed of several buildings on a 42-acre site, featuring 11 two-story buildings, a quadrangle and parking for up to 1,200 cars. Included in the project was a 2,600-seat football stadium with concrete bleachers, synthetic turf field, rubber track and full support amenities; gymnasium; baseball and softball fields; two soccer fields; 10 outdoor basketball courts; and 10 outdoor tennis courts. The buildings utilize 8-inch, 12-inch and 16-inch thick masonry walls. The gymnasium utilizes two, 2 foot 8 inch by 3 foot 4 inch masonry pilasters up to 42 feet tall with a full height steel column at the core to facilitate anchorage to the roof trusses. Gym pilasters support steel trusses that clear span more than 140 feet. The building lateral systems consist of masonry shear walls, concrete shear walls and steel braced frames. Masonry retaining walls on the site are up to 26 feet tall and masonry lintels span up to 44 feet.
